I had read constructive reports on Avira and downloaded it for malware, then discovered it was an antivirus program. Not wanting it to conflict with my Avast antivirus program (which has done a great job of protecting my computer), I uninstalled Avira using Revo-Unstaller (another fine product and free) which, after the uninstall goes back and finds other residual files left on the computer.

After the process was complete, an Avira folder with nearly 500 files and one other isolated file remained on the computer. I attempted to delete both but could not; I tried to incinerate both, but was blocked out. These both greatly slowed the performance of my computer. I tried for a week to somehow delete the file and folder, but could not.

A search for Avira support brought up a half-dozen toll-free numbers. I called one and was told I needed a technician to clean my computer for $200 or so. I protested that Ariva planted the folder and file, and should remove it without cost.

I then called another support number, got a technician who immediately recognized the problem (as though he dealt with it daily) and proceeded to take my computer by remote control, then took me to a systems page and showed me over 100 warning or error statements and called them Trojan horses which must be removed. He could do so and provide me lifetime computer security with two Windows programs for '$399. I said no thanks and after several attempts to end the call, finally said no and hung up.

I then remembered the Restore function on the computer and did a restore to a date previous to the Avira download. I was so fortunate that the restore was successful and eliminated the Avira files. The computer is again fast and responsive.

Bottom line, I don't trust these people or their program, which corrupted my computer with files I could not remove. Stay away.

Hello,

Indeed - Avira Antivirus has full protection against any kind of malware, adware and possibly unwanted programs. And it is a good advice to just have one realtime protection on your computer to avoid compatibility issues.

The Avira setup routine removes reliable all files and registry keys from the computer unless there is a system related issue like damaged user account rights.

Please contact the official Avira support over the Avira website only, it is free of charge and you can avoid negative experiences.
